”Memory” was our family boat in the 50’s. She was a Gulf Stream 30, designed by Sparkman and Stevens and built by Bob Derektor. This painting is of her in the 1958 Storm Trysail Race. That’s my father at the helm, my mother in the blue foul weather gear, me at age 11 in yellow foul weather gear and Bob Derektor forward trimming the spinnaker. With that crew she won class D. In 1959 she won her class and fleet overall in spite of being assessed a time penalty for winning the previous year. In 1960 she won again in spite of even more penalty time. When we weren’t racing her the whole family took wonderful cruises up Long Island Sound to Block Island and beyond.
